EVENT ALERT – Scottsdale/Fountain Hills – Law Seminars International: Tribal Energy in the Southwest

April 28, 2011

Administration policy and state renewable energy mandates are combining to empower Southwestern tribes to transition from merely providing land, fuels or rights of way, to becoming active entrepreneurial participants in energy projects. The President has made new commitments to the Nation’s tribes to support economic diversification and development, especially in the energy sector. Tribal leaders have the choice of developing energy resources on their own or forming joint ventures and building new alliances with other strategic business partners. Some projects involving tribes are moving forward, but others are faced with citing challenges that the tribe will have to learn to overcome.

This conference focuses on specific opportunities for projects in the Southwest and energy or power sales from projects outside the region. We will discuss federal and state policies, including the latest moves to promote tribal economic development in the energy arena, the practicalities of funding projects, structuring deals, and tools for overcoming regulatory hurdles. Our distinguished faculty will provide practical tips for companies dealing with tribes, and vice versa, and lessons from the trenches for all participants in energy projects in Indian country. This conference is a must for attorneys, tribal representatives, industry executives and consultants seeking key information on tribal energy development in the Southwest.
