Jason A. Gersting is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property group, focusing in strategic management of intellectual property portfolios within the life science, biotechnology, and medtech sectors. Dr. Gersting’s experience encompasses a wide range of services such as patent and trademark prosecution, intellectual property due diligence, negotiating licensing and other agreements, infringement, and validity matters, as well as the counseling of clients regarding their intellectual property assets in view of their near- and long-term business goals.
He currently serves clients in various technology fields, including cell therapy, immune management therapy, gene therapy, regenerative medicine, biotechnology, microorganism, clean tech, medical devices, aesthetics, personal care products, and nutraceuticals. Additionally, Dr. Gersting assists counsel from outside the U.S. in securing U.S. patent protection for their clients in these, and other, industries.
Before joining the firm, Dr. Gersting obtained his Ph.D. and J.D. from the University of Florida, where his research focused on fetal neuroendocrine signaling and prostaglandins’ role in labor initiation and delivery at the end of pregnancy. Prior to attending law school, he worked as a research scientist in a laboratory studying the non-traditional functions of hematopoietic growth factors on the fetal gastrointestinal tract development. Dr. Gersting also earned his master’s degree by developing methods to analyze the differential expression of calcium channels in response to disease or injury.
