Cole Tipton

Associate
Biography

Cole Tipton is an intellectual property litigation associate focusing on patent and trade secret litigation in U.S. Federal Courts, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and at the International Trade Commission. Cole has played an integral role on cases at the International Trade Commission and in District Court where he has contributed to all aspects of the case including drafting dispositive and discovery motions, arguing in Federal Court, taking and defending depositions, and managing multi-patent cases through trial. He has worked alongside technical experts to develop a deep understanding of complex technologies, including semiconductor technologies, cellular equipment, radio frequency identification devices (RFID), agricultural equipment, aerospace mechanisms, and plural component mixing system. Cole also has extensive experience in motion practice and fact discovery, including in matters not strictly limited to patents such as licensing disputes and FRAND matters.

Cole is also frequently involved in or consulted about matters before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Cole has assisted clients with preparing and filing IPR petitions before the PTO to challenge the validity of asserted patents in District Court and at the ITC.

Cole has further developed his skills as a litigation attorney by maintaining involvement in pro bono, with a focus on military appeals. In particular, Cole has assisted clients in a class action suit against the Coast Guard and has assisted a client in filing a complaint for relief in the District of D.C. This has provided Cole with an avenue to hone his abilities as an attorney while helping underrepresented communities who need representation most.
